Finding clarity, confidence and direction

Sometimes we know something needs to change, but not what, or how. You may feel stuck in a job that no longer fits, unsure what to do now the children have grown, or ready for something new but held back by doubt. Life coaching offers a focused, forward-looking space to work out what you want and take practical steps towards it.

I have been coaching since gaining my Diploma in Life Coaching in 2002, and have worked as an integrative psychotherapeutic counsellor for over 20 years. That combination means our work can be both practical and deep.

Who coaching is for

People often come to coaching when they want:

  • more clarity about what matters to them and where they are heading
  • greater confidence, and a quieter inner critic — see also self-esteem counselling
  • support with a career change or a new role
  • encouragement to return to study
  • help navigating a life transition, such as retirement, separation, relocation or an empty nest
  • a better balance between work, rest and the things they love
  • to recover their energy and sense of purpose after a period of stress or burnout

Coaching and counselling: what’s the difference?

Counselling tends to look at where we have come from: our feelings, our history and the patterns formed earlier in life that still affect us today. Coaching tends to look forward: what you want, what is getting in the way, and what you will do next.

In reality, the two often overlap. It is hard to move forward if old beliefs keep pulling you back, and understanding the past is most useful when it helps you live differently now. That is why I blend them.

The Heart Mind Body Solution

My signature approach, The Heart Mind Body Solution, is a unique blend of traditional psychotherapy and cutting-edge neuroscience-based coaching. In our sessions we might:

  • clarify your values and what a meaningful life looks like for you
  • set clear, achievable goals and break them into small steps
  • notice the thoughts and beliefs that hold you back, and where they came from — my blog post Who do you THINK you are? explores this
  • use an understanding of how the brain responds to change to build new habits that last
  • bring in breath, mindfulness and body awareness to help you stay calm and grounded as you stretch yourself

Where something from the past needs more attention, we can slow down and explore it therapeutically, then return to the forward-looking work when you are ready.

Career change and returning to study

Changing direction at work can be exciting and daunting in equal measure. You may know you want something different but feel unsure what, or you may have a clear idea but struggle with the practical and emotional leap. Coaching can help you take stock of your strengths, values and experience, explore options without pressure, and plan realistic next steps.

Returning to study later in life raises its own questions: whether you are capable, how you will fit it all in, what others will think. Having studied for my own degree in integrative counselling, I understand how much commitment it takes. Together we can build the confidence, structure and self-belief that help you not just start, but keep going.

Navigating life transitions

Some of the biggest changes in our lives are not choices we make but seasons we move through: children leaving home, a relationship ending, bereavement, retirement, menopause or a change in health. Transitions like these can leave us unsure who we are and what comes next. Coaching offers a steady space to grieve what has ended, notice what is emerging, and consciously shape the next chapter rather than letting it simply happen to you.

Because I am also a trained counsellor, there is room in our sessions for the feelings that transitions bring up: grief, fear, relief, anger, uncertainty. We don’t have to rush past them to get to the goals. Often, giving those feelings space is exactly what frees up the energy and clarity to move forward with confidence.

What to expect

We start with a free discovery call by phone to talk about what you would like from coaching and whether we are a good fit. In our first session we will explore where you are now, where you would like to be, and what support would help. We will agree how often to meet and review your progress regularly.

Coaching is a collaboration. I will offer structure, reflection and gentle challenge; you bring your hopes, your experience and your willingness to try something new. I can’t promise particular outcomes, but I can promise to walk alongside you with care.
