Up the Blackwater Valley

Farnborough and Sandhurst are linked by the Blackwater Valley, and for most people the journey north to my practice takes around fifteen minutes. Your route will depend on which part of Farnborough you start from, and traffic can vary. I share the full address when we book your first session.

Life around service and change

Farnborough has deep military roots. If your life has been shaped by service, whether you are serving, have left the forces, or are a partner or family member, you are very welcome. Regular moves, time apart and the expectation to stay strong can leave feelings unspoken for years.

Leaving a structured career can also bring an unexpected loss of identity. Counselling can help you make sense of those changes and reconnect with who you are now.

You do not need to explain military life to me from scratch, and you do not need to have served to feel its effects. Children changing schools, careers put on hold and friendships left behind all matter, and they all deserve a place to be talked about.

Grief, loss and big transitions

Loss comes in many forms: the death of someone close, the end of a relationship, a change of role or the slow realisation that life has not turned out as you expected. Bereavement counselling offers space to grieve without being hurried. I can also help with depression and the heaviness that often follows a major change.

Seeing me in person or online

Fifteen minutes is manageable for many people, and coming in person can create a helpful ritual around your session. If travel is difficult or you are often away, online sessions by Zoom keep things consistent. Some people alternate, and that is fine.

How I work

I am an integrative psychotherapeutic counsellor with over 20 years’ experience, UKCP accredited and a BACP member. I bring together psychotherapy, coaching and mind–body awareness, adapting the work to you. After a free phone chat, we agree a first session and decide together how to proceed, often reviewing after six sessions.

Couples under pressure

Relationships can come under particular strain when one partner is away a lot, when roles change, or when a family has moved several times. Old resentments build, communication narrows to logistics, and closeness gets lost. Couples counselling offers a neutral space to talk honestly and to listen properly.

I use approaches such as Imago Dialogue, the 5 Love Languages, Gottman methods and Emotionally Focused Therapy techniques to help partners understand each other’s needs. Some couples come to rebuild; others come to separate with care. Couples usually meet weekly at first, and may later move to fortnightly or monthly sessions.
