The commuter’s dilemma
Many people in Fleet commute, often long distances. By the time you are home, there may be little energy left for yourself, let alone for a counselling appointment. That is one reason I make both options easy: you can come to my practice in Sandhurst, around twenty minutes away, or meet me by Zoom from home.
Online sessions can be a lifeline when time is tight. Research suggests online therapy can be as effective as in-person work, and some people find it easier to open up in familiar surroundings.
If you would rather come in person
For Fleet residents, the trip to Sandhurst usually runs north-east through the Yateley or Blackwater area, taking around twenty minutes depending on traffic. Some people use the M3 for part of the way. I share the full address once your first session is booked, so you can plan ahead.
Anxiety that follows you home
Perhaps you know anxiety that never quite switches off: racing thoughts on the train, a tight chest before meetings, lying awake running through tomorrow. Anxiety counselling can help you understand where those patterns come from and find ways to calm your nervous system. My blog post on managing anxiety has a few ideas to start with.
Thinking differently about yourself
Sometimes the hardest voice to live with is our own. If you are harsh with yourself, or feel you are never quite enough, we can explore that together. You may find my post Who do you THINK you are? a useful reflection on how our thoughts shape us.
What to expect
After a free phone chat, we agree a time for your first session. There, we talk about what has brought you and agree how we will work. Sessions for individuals are 50 minutes and usually weekly, with regular reviews so you always have a say in how things are going.
You do not need to arrive with a clear story. It is fine to say, “I am not sure where to start.” Part of my role is to help you find the thread and follow it at a pace that feels manageable.
Making online sessions work
If you choose to meet online, a few simple things help. Find a room where you will not be overheard, perhaps with the door closed and headphones on. Try to give yourself a few minutes before and after rather than jumping straight from a work call. Some people take their session sitting in a parked car, simply because it is the one private space they have.
I will send you a Zoom link before each session. If the connection ever drops, we simply reconnect. The confidentiality and care are exactly the same as they would be in my practice.
Book a discovery call
If you live in Fleet and something needs attention, book a free discovery call. We can talk about in-person and online options and what would suit your life right now.
